Skin needling is a procedure that involves puncturing the skin multiple times with a small needle to stimulate collagen in the dermal layer of skin (topical anesthesia cream is used before the treatment). Skin needling creates dermal damage without the removal of healthy epidermis unlike in other skin resurfacing techniques (laser, dermabrasion). Because epidermis is left intact, the healing process is rapid. Most patients return to work and normal activities within 48 hours after the treatment.

Skin needling can treat areas that other treatments usually avoid, like the area below the eyes or the neck, and can successfully improve appearance of stretch marks and scars. Patients experience some results as soon as a few days after the treatment, however the buildup of collagen below the surface of the skin continues, skin becomes smoother and tighter and depressed wrinkle lines fill up.

Maximum results are experienced 6 to 9 months after the treatment. For maximum results, a series of 3 to 4 treatments is recommended, 4 to 6 weeks apart.
